Pride and Excellence

New Update From Coach Radunz • Week 6 • 9/21/2014
Greetings to all:
Another fantastic week of Simley Cross Country has come and gone. This week our boy's mile leader was Timothy Wilmot with 27 miles ran. Our girl's leader was Claire Anderson with 26 miles ran. For the season Timothy is leading with 132 miles, while Claire is leading with 126 miles.
We had a very productive week with a lot of things happening. On Monday I handed out grade progress forms. I will be doing this again this upcoming Monday, and for the next 2 consecutive Mondays. I have mentioned this to the runners, but parents please be aware that if your child does not turn the grade sheets back in to me by the following Monday, they will not be allowed to compete in the weeks competition. Their grade profess will be kept strictly confidential between myself, school administration, and them.
On Wednesday was our first night of the Youth Program. I am proud to announce that we had 15, 3rd-6th graders show up, with word that a couple more are joining this upcoming week. If anyone wants to be included in this program please let me know.
On Thursday the team traveled to the Dakota County Fairgrounds for the first annual Farmington Invite. We had 6 middle school runners race in the MS race, with Ryan Berg coming in second place with a time of 8:36 in the 2k race. In the girls 4k race, Emma Raab had the best time for the team, with a time of 17:42, and earned a 4th place medal. In the boys 5k race, Tyler Thomas had the best time for the team, with a time of 19:45. Both the boys and girls teams placed 3rd out of 4 teams. All 9 girls that ran in the high school race decreased their times from the previous race. Way to go!
On Friday, we had a meeting with myself and a few parents to discuss our funding level. We were able to allocate funds to purchase new white tops for both the boys and girls teams, to be worn by the top 7 Varsity runners at Conference and Sections (and State!) We also set aside funds to purchase various awards, etc. at the banquet and to purchase t- shirts as awards to give at the Simley Invite.
On Saturday, the team once again traveled to Como Lake for a practice. In the time allotted, Timothy Wilmot led the boys in laps, that being 7. Claire Anderson led the girls with 6 laps. Each lap around Como Lake is 1.6 miles. From the previous Saturday, everyone ran at least 1 more lap if not more than they had the previous Saturday. Great Job!
We have a new runner on our team, coming all the way from Thailand. Irin Ukridmanoriat is a 12th grader and she has been doing a great job so far, and hopefully will be ready to compete by the Simley Invite.
This week we have the Youth practices on Monday and Wednesday night from 6:00-7:15pm. On Thursday we will be competing at the Jefferson Invite. Check the website for details. Finally on Saturday, we will one last time this season having a MANDATORY practice at Como Lake (address is 1360 Lexington Parkway No., St. Paul) Practice will run from 8:00-10:00am as usual, however for this Saturday we cannot provide transportation from Simley HS to Como Lake and back. So, I am asking everyone to do their best at getting to Como Lake on their own. If you cannot find a way to get there please contact me, and I will do my best to help find a way to get you there. Also, as all practices, if you cannot make it dye to prior obligations or commitments, please communicate this to me. On a general note: although the weather warmed back up last week, please continue to wear or bring appropriate clothing for both at practice and at the competitions.
I am also going to do a write up explaining the Homecoming Run (Friday 10/3) proposal, which will be put on our website. I will also print off copies of the info and hand out to all of the runners. It will explain what we're doing and why, what I need the parents assistance with, and a course map with a time itinerary along with it. As always thank you to everyone for your continued support! Run fast!! Go Spartans!!!

Donations to the Simley Cross Country Booster Club
The Simley Cross Country Booster Club does not do any fundraising. The booster club pays for uniforms, awards for the end-of-season banquet, and medals at the Simley Invitational. Since the team does not do any fundraising, we are asking each parent for a donation. A suggested donation is $20 (or any amount you see fit).
Donations can be given to Karen Myers, booster club treasurer, either in person or by mail to 9253 Cheney Trail, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076. Please make checks out to "Simley CC Booster Club".
